Creative Definitions

• Students make up definitions for new words. For a variation, break into teams and have each student make up definitions and give one student the real definition. Have other team try to guess which is real.

First Thoughts

• Write or list immediate impressions about a topic they are preparing to study.

• Jigsaws are a commonly used format in which students are broken into groups to learn a portion of a larger body of information and then teach the portion that they learned to a larger group.
