CALL TO
ORDER:
Called to order at 4:03 by Terri Romero at the Central Kitsap Jr
High, Staff Lounge. Attendance list attached.
INTRODUCTION:
Kitty Campagna PTA’s Region 1 Director Elect. Welcome Kitty!
APPROVAL OF
MINUTES:
M/S/C Franklyn MacKenzie/Bob Engelmann
CORRESPONDENCE:
Bank statement came. Staples Rewards Certificate came, we can
use it towards printing the newsletter.
FINANCIAL
REPORT:
Bob Engelmann reported. Thank you to Pam Warner, Elaine Cook
and Lori Durham for ½ annual audit. Balance on hand is
$10,154. Paid our state membership dues. Current membership is
at 418. State for due @ end of the month. Kitsap Cards sold
120 (exact amount as last year). Staff Grants balance $930
outstanding. Many staff members have not turned in receipts
yet. Franklyn will notify staff.
PRINCIPAL
REPORT:
Franklyn MacKenzie reported. Valentine Dance is this Friday
from 6-9pm, we still need volunteers. Thank you to schedule
volunteers, there were lots of students needing schedules. On
the 12th a Fire Drill is scheduled. On the 14th
Report Cards being sorted by volunteers (more volunteers needed)
and Breakfast for the staff supplied by PTSA. DRP – English
Tests are on the 20th. A letter goes home later in
the spring with results. Feb 22nd is the All-District
Dance @ Klahowyah or Ridgetop 6-10pm. Daddy Daughter Dance is
the 9th. Registration for next year is coming up.
The 9th graders register on the 29th &
attend Sophomore Orientation. The week of Mar 17th
is 7th & 8th grade registration with the
Student/Parent Meeting on the 19th. Orchestra
Concert was moved to the 26th. WASL Testing for the
9th Graders is 10th & 11th of
March – Reading @ old gym, 125 students are expected to take the
test this year. Terri asked if we want to provide water &
granola bars. The Math portion is in May. MLK Assembly was a
great success. LeRoy Bell sang (he has written for Elton John
and others). The Drama Club kids did a skit. Winter Sports are
started. Bruce & Joan Larson were in an auto accident. Bruce
is the Head Coach. Both are ok but Bruce has not returned to
work yet. School Configuration Team is meeting on March 11th
in the evening. Need a Parent Rep for advising board. See
Franklyn if you are interested.
STUDENT
REPORT:
Teachers want a “pretend election” for students to vote for the
primary. They wanted PTA opinion. Discussion followed, it was
felt to be a good idea.
UNFINISHED
BUSINESS:
Thank you to Frank Warner for Cash for College presentation.
Franklyn
mentioned there is a Safety on the Internet Presentation
Workshop for Kids and Parents. It was felt it would be a good
thing to try to do. He will talk with N. Kitsap and find out
who put it on and get PTSA the info so we can help.
VOLUNTEER
RECOGNITION:
Volunteer of the Month – Kathy Lubetich for Box Topps and Easy
Money.
COUNCIL
REPORT:
Press Report passed on Reconfiguration Meeting. PTA’s can’t
just hand out coupons for a “For Profit” company with out
Council Approval. April 20th is Adopt a Highway Day
for council – Franklyn asked about Honor Society helping but
they must be 16 to volunteer for this.
CHAPERONES:
They need volunteers, chaperones, cookies, water, fingerfood,
veggies, & chips for the Valentines Dance.
NEWSLETTER:
Entries are due by 6th – discussion regarding Golden
Acorn Winners.
FOUNDERS DAY:
March 7th – Pam Dore and Mary Beth are working on our
basket. They have gift certificates coming to go with a nice
glass bowl in at “For You” theme.
DADDY
DAUGHTER DANCE:
Council Event co-chaired by Terri. They need help at 10am to
decorate. Tickets are available at the door.
LEGISLATION:
Focus Day is the 13th in Olympia. Terri & Arjia
going.
PICTURE
BOARD:
Franklyn is working on getting the pictures.
NEW BUSINESS:
STAFF GRANTS:
Kay Dayling requesting DVD/MP3 player. Used for listening to
lessons. Approx cost $80 – Discussion followed. M/S/C Bob
Engelmann/Mary Beth Fergus
CARES
REQUEST:
Bridget Burke would like 30 cloth book covers for Life Science
Books – Discussion followed. This requests qualifies for CARES
budget and will come from CARES budget.
FOOD DRIVES:
Terri would like to see food drives all year long. Would like
to get the kids involved in a food & necessity drive. Franklyn
& Susan say there is one planned the week of March 24th.
FUKUHARA
FAMILY:
They are still in Hawaii with sick child. PTA would like to
help.
GENERAL
MEETING:
The next General Meeting is March 18th. Need to
elect a Nominating Committee – need volunteers for this
committee.
STAFF
APPRECIATION:
Breakfast planned for Feb 14th, needed are baked
goods and help with set-up. You can drop items off the day
before. The report card people will be in right after the
breakfast.
GOLDEN ACORN:
Terri talked about implementing annually the “Outstanding
Educator Award” at the Jr High. Discussion followed. Not sure
we can make all the deadlines to do it this year at Founders Day
banquet. Terri will explain and put nomination forms in e-mail
and PTSA newsletter. There will be a request for nominations by
the end of Feb. Awards Committee will decide on winners and
either Susan Jung or Franklyn will be on the committee.
Decision to make it annual was M/S/C Kathy Lubetich/Franklyn
MacKenzie.
This year’s
Golden Acorn Nominees were: Pam Dore, Lori Durham, Bob
Engelmann, Mary Beth Fergus, Leah Meadows, Terri Romero, Vicki
Sontag & Pam Warner. This year’s winners are Pam Dore and Pam
Warner! Congratulations Pam & Pam!
Staff meeting
tomorrow at 2:15, they would like all the nominees to come.
