The Zenith aircraft company designed the CH-701 that the
class is building. Their site has information and photos of the completed aircraft.
Zenithair and the Heintz family have provided us immeasurable advice,
support, and encouragement since the inception of our program. |
Oregon Aero is the world's premier maker of headset pads, helmet liners, earphone seals, and new and replacement seats for general and commercial aviation and military aircraft. They helped our students design and construct seats for our CH-701.

Ballistic Recovery Systems supplies parachutes for airplanes! When mounted in an aircraft they may be deployed to lower the whole aircraft gently to the ground in case of an emergency. These emergency parachutes have been
successfully used over one hundred times saving 132 lives. BRS has generously donated a parachute to install in our aircraft.
BRS has provided a system that has been installed in our
CH-701. Here are some photos of our
installation.

Bendix King, an industry leader in
both affordable and top end avionics has donated a KT76A transponder that
will allow our CH-701 to fly through class B and C airspace. Since
both Bremerton National and Apex airpark are within 30 NM of SEATAC airport,
we are required to have a transponder on board from the first
flight. This is a generous contribution for which we are very
grateful..

Garmin has
provided us with the means to get where we are going! Or, at least,
know where we are along the way. They kindly sent us a GPSMAP 195
which we fired up and displayed to the students. This led to some
interesting discussions of position, navigation, latitude and longitude, and
orbital geometry. We found out where we were, took a walk around the
school, and watched our position change the whole time. More
importantly, the 195 will help us in the air once the 701 is off the
ground. Not only are we going to Oshkosh, we'll be able to find it!

LightSpeed Active Noise Reduction Aviation Headsets of Portland, Oregon, has donated two headsets to our project. Lightspeed is an industry leader in the development of active noise reduction in the cockpit environment. Their website contains a
tutorial on the science and engineering behind active noise reduction. Our builders are currently using the headsets to listen to airborne traffic in our area and look forward to being able to use them in the air.

Flightcom
Corporation, makers of headsets, in-flight intercoms, cool accessories,
and Digital Voice Recorders for the panel, has donated a 300i DVR for use
in our 701. It will allow us to record checklists, play back
transmissions, and keep time. |

A similar page about a class building an airplane
in France. This link is no longer valid but for several years showed
that projects like ours were happening in other countries. The
French project was conducted in a technology school with college aged
students. They built and flew a composite (epoxy and fiberglass)
airplane. |
