| Project Schoolflight Update
Volume 6, August 22, 1998 Were Off !! On Thursday, September 10th, at 6:00 PM, we will kick off our second year of Central Kitsap Project SchoolFlight! This will be an introductory session to display our progress to date, introduce the instructors, mentors, returning aeromanufacturers, and the new class of aeromanufacturers.
This summer: Mr. Smith and Mr. Steed attended both the Arlington fly-in and the Oshkosh AirVenture 98. They met the designer of the CH 601 and 701 and factory personnel, attended forums, saw completed examples of the aircraft, talked to prospective sponsors, and just generally had a great time. They came back with bags of photos of flying CH-701s to aid in the construction of our aircraft. This summer also saw the inauguration of the Chapter 406 Get a Student Started program. EAA Chapter 406 has contributed one half of the first ten hours of flight time for 6 students involved in the aeromanufacturing class. Pegasus Air at the Bremerton National Airport has provided us with a discount on flight instruction and currently four students are flying! Connections. . . Our website is providing us with contacts around the world. To date we have heard from Argentina, Canada, France, South Africa, and states within the U.S. We are also talking to the EAA headquarters about helping found a web-based aviation lesson plan repository to form a cornerstone of the EAAs new Science/Math/Technology Leadership Development Plan. Dr. Lee Siudzinski, the SMT Program Director, will travel to Silverdale in September to visit our program.Awards !! On 17 August, Mrs. Gilchrist, Mr. Smith, and Mr. Steed attended the Washington State Vocational Associations annual Convention in Seattle. They accepted the associations annual Excellence in Teaching award. Congratulations to everyone who helped make this possible. What happens now ?? On Thursday, September 10 at 6:00 PM, we will meet in the Aeromanufacturing facility of Central Kitsap Junior High School. It is in the back of the building. Come in and see what has been accomplished, where the project is going, and how you can be a part of this amazing operation! Well see you there. |
