Final Assignment!!!!

This is it, the moment you’ve been waiting for…. Your mission, should you decide to take it (of course, if you don’t you’ll get a zero) is to create a master list of all your work with hyperlinks to your work.  In order for this assignment to be graded, I’ll have to come to your work-station. The reason that I’ll have to check the assignment at your station is that the hyperlinks will not be saved properly onto the P: drive.

By the way, this assignment is worth 3 times the value of your other assignments. (It’s only worth twice as much as the Excel assignments though)

What’s a Hyperlink?

I knew you were thinking that…  Microsoft Help defines hyperlink as: a "hot spot" that allows you to jump to another location. The location can include another file on your hard disk or company's network (such as a Microsoft Word document or a Microsoft Excel worksheet), an Internet address (such as http://www.microsoft.com), or a location such as a bookmark or slide. The field includes display text, which is often blue and underlined, that the user clicks to jump to the specified location. You can insert hyperlinks by clicking the Hyperlink command on the Insert menu.

In other words, a hyperlink is text or a picture that will automatically open another document or launch an application. You’ve seen them at work with most of my assignments. You know, “click here if you’d like to see an example,” or “click here to see how to save your document.” If you’re panicking when you click on my “hyperlink” examples in this document., they’re not actually hyperlinks. They just look like they are.

Anyway, for the assignment…. Make a list of all your assignments and create hyperlinks to them on your H: drive. Don’t hyperlink to the P: drive or any other drive. Please organize your list like an outline. For example:

            I.    Word Assignments

                                1.     Autobiography

                                2.     Word 01

                                3.     Word 02

                                4.     Word 03

                                5.     Word 04

                                6.     Word 05

                                7.     Word 06

                                8.     Word 07

II.    PowerPoint Assignments etc….

I’m going to randomly check 5 hyperlinks. One from each assignment area (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access and Publisher). Remember that you need to have a copy of Word 05 and Word 06 if you worked on those assignments with other people.  In addition, I will ask you to hold your cursor over five of the other hyperlinks so I can check the rest of the hyperlinks.

How do you insert a hyperlink?

I knew you were thinking that…. Once you’ve typed the text you want as a hyperlink, select the text. Don’t make it blue and don’t underline it.  Go to Insert and select Hyperlink.  You should see something that looks like this.

Click on the  .button. You’ll see something like this;

Now, it’s just a simple matter of finding the file that you want the hyperlink to open. Like I pointed out earlier, make sure you link to files on your H: drive.

Now, for the grading:

1.                  Please have a title. (5 points)

2.                  Please include your name. (5 points)

3.                  You’ll get 1 point for each application (Word, Excel, etc…) heading. (5 points)

4.                  You’ll get 25 points for each assignment title. (25 points)

5.                  You’ll get 20 points for each successful hyperlink. (five links for 100 points)

6.                  You’ll get 10 points for each spot-check hyperlink. (five links for 50 points)

7.                  You’ll get 10 points for using a serif font (like Times New Roman). (10 points)

There are 200 points total!!!!
