Writing Your Autobiography

Assignment: As a “Getting to Know You” exercise, please write a 3-paragraph paper in which you'll respond to the following statements: (each paragraph should have 5 complete sentences)

Paragraph 1 should contain: Early childhood information…

·        Your name,

·        Your date of birth,

·        Your place of birth,

·        What your family was like when you were born,

·        What your early childhood was like,

·        Some interesting things that happened when you were little.

Paragraph 2 should contain: Background information…

·        Places you’ve lived and traveled,

·        Schools you’ve attended

·        Interesting things you did at school

·        Accomplishments and awards,

·        Other interesting events in your life.

Paragraph 3 should contain; What your life is like now…

·        What you look like,

·        Your family and friends,

·        Your school,

·        Your interests and hobbies,

·        Your plans for the future,

·        What you think you might learn in this class.

When you write a short autobiography, you’ll find you won't have space for all the information requested. Just include what’s most important and most interesting. In paragraph 1, for example, you could cover the first two or three requests in one sentence - for example; “It was a cold wintry night on November 24th, 1854 in my home town of Bonn, Germany where I was born Johannes Finklestein, youngest son of Deitrich Finklestein.”  This would leave 4 sentences to cover the interesting stuff.

Please make your autobiography enjoyable for others (like your teacher) to read. Include some stories about funny or unusual things that have happened to you. Tell what makes you different from other people. What problems do you have to deal with? What things do you do best?

Please follow these guidelines:

·        2 spaces following a period,

·        1 space following a comma

·        TAB once to indent a paragraph

·        Use spell check and grammar (if you don’t know where these are, look under Tools)
