Cub Choir
The Cub Choir is a one hour class that meets five times a week in the Music program at Central Kitsap Junior High. This class of 7th grade boys and girls is the beginning step towards participation in the excellent choral music program which has developed at the Junior High School.
In addition to preparing and presenting four programs for the public during the school year, this class will provide each student with basic skills in reading a musical score at sight, singing with a pleasant tone through proper vocal production a background in music theory as it applies to choral music and opportunities for musical and personal growth in one of the advanced areas of the curriculum.
The activities of the class are carried on in the regular school day. It is not a Glee Club where music is learned only as a vehicle for performance, but a regular class in which performance is a result of the development of those skills necessary to the sequential learning process which is part of musical development.
The members of this class feed
directly into the choirs at each grade level from eighth to twelfth grade.
Beginning in the seventh grade, these students will have the opportunity to
represent their school and community in the activities of the Olympic Music
Educator’s Association competitions held each year. These opportunities
include the choral music festival as well as Solo and Ensemble competition.
