This is an extra-credit assignment for students who are taken out of school for extended vacations.

1. When you leave to go on your vacation, check out a Mr. Potato Head from Mr. Ditch. |
2. For every day that you are absent, take a picture of the potato head in a setting that is culturally relevant to the place in which you are traveling, eg., Potato Head on the Great Wall of China, Potato Head snorkeling in Hawaii, Potato Head posing with the queen of England, etc. Please do not include any funeral pictures (no people grieving or pictures of deceased relatives [I know it sounds sick, but you'd be surprised at what I get]). You may alter him but not break him. Try putting side burns on him and posing near the gate of Graceland.
3. For every day of school that you miss, write a one paragraph diary entry from Potato Head's point of view . You may talk about where Potato Head went, what he saw, how he felt, what he found interesting, or what he saw that disturbed him. Elaborate your ideas fully by including lots of rich details and supporting your ideas with explanations. You might want to use the paragraph structure that we practice with in class.
4. When you return, develop the film and scan your Potato Head pictures.
5. Submit your Potato Head pictures and journal entries to Mr. Ditch and he will post them on this web page. Make sure that your work is proofread and well-written.
I will know I am done when:
I have taken a picture of Mr. Potato head in a culturally relevant spot for every day of class that I missed.
I have written a journal entry from Mr. Potato Head's point of view for every day of class that I missed.
I have word processed my entries.
I have edited my entries and proofread them and gone through them with Mr. Ditch.
I have scanned my pictures and given Mr. Ditch the scanned pictures as well as the digitized saved file of my writing. (He has no use for the paper pictures or the paper version of the diaries.)
